GRP Roofing in Bow

Bow's Victorian and Edwardian houses, rear extensions and bay roofs often have flat roofs that have outlived their felt. GRP fibreglass is a common replacement here because it forms a seamless, waterproof surface, suits roofs walked on from time to time and can be laid to fit a small or awkward shape.

A GRP roof is built up in layers: a prepared deck, a resin base, fibreglass matting and a topcoat. On a Bow extension the deck is usually timber, and it needs to be sound and dry before any resin goes on. That is why we check the deck, the falls and the outlets before quoting, rather than laying new material over a problem.

Many Bow flats and houses have flat roofs with upstands against brick walls, parapets and roof lights. Each junction needs careful detailing, because a seamless roof is only as good as the way it meets the wall. We dress the upstands and fit the roof light kerbs as part of the installation, not as an afterthought.

For a small commercial roof near Bow Creek, GRP can also be a practical choice where a roof needs a tough surface for foot traffic. The specification changes with the use, so we check how the roof is used before recommending it.

How a GRP installation works

Preparation

The old covering is removed or prepared, the deck is checked, and any soft timber is replaced. Falls are corrected so water runs to the outlets.

Laying the system

A primer and resin base go on, fibreglass matting is bonded in, and the surface is finished with a topcoat. Upstands and edges are detailed as the work goes.

Finishing and checks

We check the finished surface, the junctions and the outlets, and explain any care the roof needs afterwards.

Cure It installations and guarantees

Cure It systems

Where the roof is suitable, we install the Cure It GRP system. The quote confirms the system and the surface preparation for your roof.

Guarantees

KC Roofing offers a company guarantee of up to 25 years on qualifying new roofs. A separate 10-year insurance-backed guarantee applies only to qualifying GRP Cure It installations. Your quote sets out which guarantee applies to your job and its conditions.

GRP Roofing in Bow — FAQs

Is GRP better than felt for a Bow extension roof?

For many small flat roofs, GRP is a strong choice because it is seamless and suits roofs walked on occasionally. Felt can still be right in some cases. We look at the roof's size, shape and use before recommending a system.

Can you lay GRP over my old felt roof?

Sometimes. It depends on whether the existing felt is firmly bonded, dry and flat enough. We check this and tell you if the old covering has to come off first.

How long does a GRP roof take to install?

It depends on the size and detail of the roof and on the weather, since resin must be laid in suitable conditions. We confirm the timing in the quote.

What guarantee comes with a GRP roof?

KC Roofing offers a company guarantee of up to 25 years on qualifying new roofs. Qualifying GRP Cure It installations also carry a separate 10-year insurance-backed guarantee. Your quote states which applies.
